Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII V8: The japanese of the Brasil Stock Car
In 2005 the Japanese company decided to successfully use its famous race car in a different championship from the WRC.
Since its foundation in the '70s, the Stock Car Brasil championship has been one of the most important motorsport events in all South America. For many automobile manufacturers it is a good occasion to promote their vehicles; and Mitsubishi was not an exception.
In fact, in 2005, the company decided to deploy a special Lancer Evolution VIII that could challenge the Chevrolet Astra H.
This model incorporated within the tubular frame JL G-09 a Chevrolet V8 engine with a capacity of 450 hp managed by a six-speed sequential gearbox.

With a weight of 1320 kg and thanks to the use of an aerodynamic aluminum body, the car implemented a safety roll-bar which increased the rigidity of the chassis, sports disc brakes, stiff race suspension and new alloy rims specific for competitions .
The car, followed in races by several teams, had a blurry debut performance: in the second Grand Prix of San Paolo, it ranked only third.
But things changed a year later.
The Eurofarma RC team wanted to replace their Astra with an Evolution VIII and for the occasion they hired as a driver Cacá Bueno. Bueno, in the previous three editions had always ranked in second place. This intuition was a success. For two years in a row, in 2006 and in 2007 the original driver from Rio de Janeiro managed to win.

Sadly, nothing lasts forever. When new teams like Volkswagen and Peugeot enjoyed the race as well, hard times came for japanese cars. Mitsubishi decided to abandon the championship almost right after, at the end of 2008.
