Five ways to modify your ride for off-road adventures
Bakkies and SUVs are capable of having off-road fun as is. However, you can fit various modifications to turn your ride into an off-road machine. This, however, could seem like overkill on the paved road. That is why you should ensure proper fitment. Here are five ways to modify your vehicle to tackle any off-road terrain:
(1) Tires

This is seen as the first and easiest upgrade. Make sure you get a proper purpose-built set of tires. Deep tread is important when challenging snowy, sandy or muddy terrains.
(2) Lift Kit
So, why a lift kit? A lift kit will be crucial when ground clearance is an factor, keeping balance in mind. Every centimetre of boost from the kit will decrease the probability of getting stuck as a result of obstacles.

(3) Skid Plate
This is one of my most favorite modifications, and very popular here in South Africa. Lifting your ride will only bring you so far, sometimes your underbelly of your vehicle will come in contact with the off-road terrain. This is a delicate part of your ride. A skid-plate can be seen as armor, protecting the essential elements like the radiator, engine pan, etc.

(5) Roof Rack
This is also one of my personal favourites. What happens when you have a few extra gear and no space? A roof rack (and some heavy-duty straps) will give you the extra storage. You can acquire an aluminium roof rack if weight is a major concern. Moreover, aluminium will stand up to the elements better than steel.
