We were lucky enough to get invited to the Aston Martin event in Carmel. It was fantastic. The Aston Martin and Lagonda only cruise in and car show in the morning was a great start for the day.
The Gulf livery is inspired.
Zagato can really make a phenomenal looking car.
The "Z" stitching is brilliant.
My god it's fabulous. The Vantage Zagato.
The cars on display ranged from a 1930's Lagonda to fresh out of the factory. The Vantage Zagato was particularly striking. I really liked the Z stitching on the leather in the interior.
The Lagonda was something unusual. Looks like a fun ride.
DB5 and sinister looking Lagonda
Bond, do be careful with it.
DB5 Volante - painfully pretty
As you can see from the pictures, there were very few people other than the car's owners. I don't know why I was invited, but I'm sure glad that I was. I checked out all the cars while my wife went in to the private area where she was given a choice of fresh cut flowers and various complimentary drinks. Aston also had a cart hosted by the Waldorf Astoria hotel that served sorbet pops of four different flavors. Two were alcoholic and two were not. They were very tasty.
When I finished looking at cars we went in to the Q division section. Q is Aston's customization department. If you can imagine it, they will build it. If you have enough money ; ). We were served appetizers and Perrier-Jouet champagne. It was very well done. I had a nice conversation with one of the Q designers, who showed me the new chopped carbon fiber trim that they are using in some of the cars. He also showed me a sample of a new type of carbon fiber trim that looks just like Damascus steel. Both were very good looking, but can not be tinted with color at this time so they are a bit stark.
This was the car on display in the Q section. The new DBS superleggera. Coolest car I've ever seen.
Fits like a glove. Should be mine, but not yet anyway. Hope springs eternal. You can see the chopped carbon fiber trim on the door panels and center console.
My wife got a big kick out of the whole experience.
After having too many glasses of champagne, we went off to our late lunch reservation at La Bicyclette in Carmel. It was great. Later that evening we came back to the same location for a concert courtesy of Aston with the lead singer from the band FUN. He is very talented and it was a fun show. Thank you Aston Martin.
Fun concert in the Sunset Center at Aston Martin's Club 1913
