It wasn’t all that long ago that I wrote about Jaguar’s upcoming replacement for the F-Type. The rumours at hand back then painted a very intriguing picture, with most notably a mid-engined hybrid layout suggested.

It appears however that wasn’t quite true, for a more practical 2+2 body-style is now on the cards. While it’s thought that the car will be lighter than the outgoing F-Type - while still using aluminium architecture - it’ll also be more spacious inside, and more suited for everyday use.

While the spectrum of the F-Type goes from the Porsche 718 to the 911 at the moment, the new one will dedicate itself to rivalling the 911. It’s also thought that in the top level F-Type models, out will be the old 5L supercharged V8, and in will go a BMW-derived 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 from the M5. Say goodbye to the noise, then!

The new F-Type is due for release in 2020. Whether it will use hybrid tech or not is yet to be confirmed, but it is incredibly likely. An all-electric version is also on the table, but that would be introduced later on in the car’s life.

But now I want to ask you guys: what do you think about the new F-Type from what you’ve just heard? Are you disappointed about the fact that they’re moving away from the legendary supercharged V8, or are you excited for something new? Let me know in the comments.

    • Thanks. I'd rather not knowing from the rumours tbh, like the Alfa Giulia QV coupé that rumoured to be unveiled at the end of June, but then nothing happens

  • From what we’ve just heard? What did we hear? Might be mid engined, might be hybrid, might compete against the 911? What does compete against a 911 even mean? The 911 is an iconic design that has slowly evolved over 50 years. It’s one of the all time great designs. Is the new jag competing on price, quality, performance?
