More Of What You Love: Minichamps 1/43 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 (982)

A new chapter awaits.

This isn't just any review. I am here today to announce the beginning of something new for me. I have decided to combine this hobby and passion in order to create my own small business. As much as I love most model car vendors, I get the feeling there isn't much that combines a deeply-rooted enthusiasm for certain cars and the ability to buy the models at a reasonable price. I want this to combine elements of what make the real cars so great with the models before us. With that being said, consider this the inaugural listing. What better way to kick things off than with one of the most highly-anticipated models of the decade thus far.

Ever since its debut for the 2018 model year, the 718 Cayman GTS became the butt of everyone's jokes since it was essentially a slightly more powerful Cayman S. Everyone expected more out of a GTS branded car, despite the fact that it carried over the same recipe from other models in the lineup. When the 982 debuted in 2016, enthusiasts complained left and right about the transition from a naturally-aspirated flat-6 to a turbocharged flat-4, which seemed like blasphemy at the time. Porsche claimed it was a step above the 981 in terms of performance and fuel efficiency, but it was to no avail. Porsche enthusiasts around the world kept hounding to have a return for the flat-6, so Porsche released the 718 Cayman GT4 (and 718 Boxster Spyder), but that still wasn't enough. In 2020, their prayers were answered in the form of the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 (and Boxster 4.0), which sport a lightly detuned version of the flat-6 found in the range-topping Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. It packs a 394 hp punch in a bored out version of the 992's flat-6. Available with a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic or a 6-speed manual, it marks a return to what many deem Porsche's roots. Then again, they seem to forget that cars like the 356 and 914 sported flat-4s, but that's beside the point.

This model is a launch spec 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 that dons a gorgeous Carmine Red finish with the 718 Sport Wheels in Satin Black.

It's a great model of an amazing driver's car. What more could you ask for?
