More than 50% of older drivers support testing for older motorists every 5 years
The study, published by IAM RoadSmart, concluded that old people are more than willing to prove themselves as safe drivers.
A survey of 3,000 motorists aged over 60 has revealed that 55% of them support policy that would ensure that drivers of their age would be retested every 5 years after their license renewal.
Director of Policy and Research of IAM RoadSmart - yes, those blokes who told drivers to shuffle their steering wheel and to park their cars only at night - Neil Greig commented that the research "shows that many older drivers are confident in their driving and happy for their health and driving skills to be periodically tested to determine that they are still up to scratch".
The research also showed that 46% of the people surveyed support a "flexible system" that would allow elderly drivers to only use local roads or drive only during daylight hours.
Now that last part in my opinion is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard. How is a system that bans old people from driving at a certain time flexible? Also, what if those people have a flight or a train that they need to catch after daylight hours?
It seems once again that IAM Roadsmart is proving that it's ideas are anything but "roadsmart". Guess some things never change.

How about we test cars too…
What ever happened to yearly inspections?
I think this poll was done in the UK. We already have yearly inspections called MOT.
We need it in the US to keep rolling deathtraps off the road
I am in the age group they are talking about. I am willing to be tested again, once I sober up.
Everyone should be every 3 years. Many dangerous drivers are far younger.
I wonder how the question has been asked
Badly.
