Morgan are pioneers

A car for those who just know and should be protected at all costs

Now when people talk about the "perfect car" regardless on opinions about the criteria it must follow, very few would put Morgan right at the top. For me at least this is a shame, sure Morgans are popular and interesting but the number of people who like them isn't necessarily the same number as the people who buy them. Many go out and buy new 911s, BMW M2 or anything in a similar vain that's "more modern" but for me this is a shame, Morgans are far more advanced than some give them credit for and have so much more to offer than ever before.

No logical reason for this car other than we all need one

The Flagship and Entry cars are now both almost perfect

This year has seen the introduction of the new Plus Six, a car that's taken the best parts of Morgan and combined it with the best non-M BMW engine there currently is. To first look at, it may seem like an old Morgan from anytime ago, but in truth there's practically nothing in common with past Morgans. It's a hand crafted sportscar that weighs just over a tonne and has 335bhp (you can't say that about a new Z4 with the same engine) There is nothing I don't like about the Plus Six... apart from the steering wheel and gear knob, they look awful (see comparison below)

Nobody hates this car as far as I can tell, same can be said for their entry model the 3 Wheeler. The most pointless car in modern history that has no right to be a success and we all want one even if it kills us. Morgan have built them purely for shits and giggles, no other reason for this car apart from fun. Kind of sad the EV3 model's been cancelled as it would've been a hoot but just hearing the V-Twin more than makes up for that. They draw from their history but are not tied to it, they're for one purpose, to make you smile on a normal drive.

Seriously try to look at this and not imagine jumping into it then hitting the road

Morgan do one thing better above all

They do things their way and build what they want. Think of any other manufacture who would allow someone to build a 3 wheeled sportscar for production. Morgan could easily have moved to carbon fibre and 48v superchargers by now but that's not who they are and they know it. They make cars, not assemble them which is becoming a dying art more than ever. In a time when everything is going automated (not that I'm against it) it is good to see some people keeping a little bit analogue for as long as possible.

People need to look past the erm... past

Morgan cars have been around for a long time but unfortunately that brings with it a myth that their cars have never changed much in that time. Firstly if that were true they'd never pass an MOT but more importantly you just need to Google old Morgans to clearly see for yourself that's not true. The truth of it is where every other car manufacturer has chosen to follow one path to make sales and boost profit, Morgan opt to take the other path and make cars we all actually like and it seems to have worked so far.

Most of all the decision to do things different from all others, stick to what they do best and only improve on that is what make Morgan the true pioneers of the motoring industry. In times when everyone seems to be trying to invent the new personal transport pod thing to drive you to work and back, it's good to see at least one company is still making something for the enthusiast to drive themselves.

  • I'd go with a 20-ish year old Plus 4 if I had the money.

  • Great article 👍 totally agree with you. Morgan are a truly unique British car maker not willing to follow trends but set their own and I have nothing but admiration for them.
