Morgan has even us a snippet of joy with a confirmation of their new sports car for 2019. At the moment, it is known internally as the 'Wide Body' and uses a brand new bonded aluminium chassis. Marking the 110-years anniversary, this new car will feature a new powertrain as well as that new chassis - claiming it is twice as stiff as the previous ones.
This new engine will be smaller than the BMW V8 that they fit in the Aero 8 and Plus 8 models. This is the only sad part of this news - they will stop using the V8 after 2019. The final examples of those cars will be kept as apart of the Morgan heritage fleet. They have been fitting V8 engines to their cars for 50 years. That will be a sad day.
Morgan claims that the 'Wide Body' is positioned above the Roaster, Plus 4 and the 4/4 in performance - yet it's not been designed to replace the Plus 8 or the Aero 8. Those will be replaced in the years to come. So that sounds like more exciting news will be on the way.
Graham Chapman, Morgan's technology director, says next year's launch "is the culmination of several years of unprecedented development in design and engineering for Morgan. This has produced the most advanced development programme in Morgan's history, the results of which we cannot wait to share with our customers worldwide".
