Morning run with this ⌚🏃‍♂️

This is a watch I bought around 10 years ago, made by Ben Sherman, because A, it's very clean and B, I like the clean, elegant design. The bad news is this falls under the "fashion watch" category, which is by far and away the worst possible kind of watch you can buy. These watches tend to be overpriced, cheaply made and even the materials that are used aren't exactly top notch. My advice to you, if you ever buy a fashion watch, which basically means a watch made by a popular brand with no real credentials in the watch-making industry is do it, if you want, but only if it's cheap. Anyway, mine works for now, I've changed the battery and the original faux leather with this old black Nato strap I had, it's a bit worn out but I kinda like it. I went for a run today because I wanted to see how it did in bad weather condition and under stress. It did rather well. I might wear it again. I kinda like it. For the record, this cost me around €20, which is more or less as far as I'd go when it comes to fashion watches.

  • Hi John,

Fashion Brand watches nothing wrong with them, if this type of watch works for you.

Hamilton Watches are great and very reasonably priced. Check out Hamilton Pan Europ

    • I'd personally tell anyone to buy a fashion watch only if it's truly cheap. Mind you, Hamilton isn't a fashion watch brand, it's a relatively well-respected name in the business

    • Exactly Hamilton stand on there own and are not a Fashion brand . Hamilton Watches are very well made with ETA movements.

  • Nope. Not for me in the slightest. There is just something about someone wearing a Gucci watch or god forbid a Superdry watch. To me, that isn’t what watches are about. I’d rather take a Seiko or Citizen for half the price.

    • agreed. I personally strongly disapprove of a brand that starts with D and ends with Aniel Wellington

    • Yes! You’ve hit the nail on the head with that one. It is purely just a brand for influencers to make a bit of cash off of.

  • I’m an old dude ... so working as a “suit” in the Silicon Valley during the mid 80’s, a tank watch was mandatory wear. I broke your “buy cheap” rule for several years ... Pulsars and Seiko’s ... nothing crazy but over $200. These days my watch case cupboards are bare save an old Tommy Bahama Tank, (made by Seiko) a Tag Link and my trusty Pathfinder.

    • well, you know, $200 for a fashion watch is too much, $200 for a Seiko is more or less spot on, $200 for a Rolex is impossible, etc etc...

    • Agreed ... for a while I had a Submariner and my Tag that I would rotate. After 50 or more random people asked me if the Rolex was a “real one” I decided that I’m not a Rolex guy and kept the Tag. Didn’t want to wear a watch that was widely known for the...

    • Pass. These are disposable things you're lucky to get a battery change or two with.
