After completing 2019 preseason tests in Valencia and Jerez, reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez had successful shoulder surgery at a Barcelona hospital on Tuesday.
Repsol Team Honda said the operation was done to resolve the recurring dislocation in Marquez’s left shoulder, an issue which had persisted throughout the year. He re-injured the shoulder on the first flying lap of qualifying for November’s Valencia race, although he quickly got it popped back into place before heading back out to claim P5.
Marquez will be discharged within the next 48 hours. Next week he will begin a six-week rehabilitation program in his hometown of Cervera. He will commence his winter training in preparation for the Sepang test in February.
