Move Over, The Excellent; There's a New Monstrosity In Town
If you're going to drive around in an all-terrain vehicle, it might as well be a classic Challenger
In season 1 of The Grand Tour, Jeremy unveiled The Excellent, a converted off-road Mercedes that admittedly had some issues. Despite that, I actually quite liked the concept of The Excellent and have wanted to see one built with my favorite type of car: classic muscle.
The automotive gods have seen fit to grant my wish, and even better, it's local to me! Take a look at this piece of work; it's a 4x4 converted 1972 Dodge Challenger, and it's up for sale on Craigstlist.
It's listed for $28,000 and honestly, that's not a bad price at all for what you get. According to the listing:
"It sits welded on an M1009 military frame and chassis and is powered by a 5.7l with longtube headers and fully custom Flowmaster dual exhaust as well as all brand new accessories on top of the engine; new four barrel Quick Fuel carburetor, new highrise intake manifold, new HEI distributor, new radiator, new alternator, new aftermarket Holley fuel pump, new plugs/wires, new air cleaner/filter.
Behind the motor is a brand new 4L60E automatic transmission electronically controlled by a US Shift Quick 1 transmission controller mounted in the cab. 2H, 4H and 4L gears are powered by a fully rebuilt and bulletproof NP205 transfer case with a front Dana 44 with locking hubs and rear Dana 60 straight axles. 33x12.5xR15 BFGoodrich KO tires have only 3,000 miles on them with plenty of tread left."
Apparently this baby drives just as well on the road as off-road, and only has 3,400 since it was rebuilt. All that remains now is to name this thing.
