MRF Challenge: Drugovich completes a clean sweep in Abu Dhabi with Race 4 win
There was no stopping the Brazilian in the penultimate round of the winter championship.
It was once again Felipe Drugovich heading off the field in the final race of the Abu Dhabi MRF Challenge race week with Rinus van Kalmthout alongside, while Julien Falchero and Presley Martono were on Row 2 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
It was a steady start this time for majority of the drivers, with Drugovich leading the way from van Kalmthout, Falchero and Martono. Behind, Nazim Azman gained a position over Alex Karkosik to be fifth, however, it was adjudged as a false start from the Malaysian.
Before Azman's drive-through penalty on Lap 5, Karkosik re-took the position on track, as Drugovich continued his dominance in the lead from van Kalmthout. The battle for second was close with Martono on Falchero's tail in the end stages of the 10-lap race.
With his eighth win of the season, Drugovich completed a rare sweep, where he topped every session and won all the four races, including clocking the fastest lap - the Brazilian heads to the season-finale in Chennai with a monstrous lead of 86 points.
After a difficult start to the weekend, van Kalmthout ended it with couple of podiums finishing second in Race 4, while Falchero managed to hold off Martono to complete his weekend on the podium in all the four races.
Behind, Karkosik, who is under investigation, finished fifth ahead of Robert Megennis, who had Danial Frost all over his rear in the end stages. But the American managed to keep the Singaporean off by 0.303s.
Dylan Young finished eighth as the Australian managed to hold off a pack of cars with Michelangelo Amendola in ninth, followed by Harris Jones and Henning Enqvist - the group of four cars being separated by 1.731s.
The rest of the finishers had Manuel Maldonado in 12th followed by Kurt Hill, Perdana Putra Minang, Richard Wagner, Pavan Ravishankar and the aforementioned Azman - the Venezuelan was shown the black and white flag for track limits.
