MRF Challenge: Drugovich survives two safety car periods in Abu Dhabi Race 1 win
Championship leader Felipe Drugovich started the first race in MRF Challenge's Round 3 at Yas Marina Circuit on pole under the flood lights with Julien Falchero alongside, while Alex Karkosik and Presley Martono were in Row 2.
The Brazilian had a perfect getaway off the line to lead the race, while Martono jumped Falchero and Karkosik to take second, with the Frenchman in third while the Polish driver dropped to fifth after Loius Gachot also cleared him for fourth.
The race was then neutralised for a couple of laps with both Rinus van Kalmthout and Richard Wagner's retirement - the former suffering a big blow in his title bid, especially after Drugovich managed to finish the race.
The Brazilian had built up a commanding lead until the second safety car for Michalengelo Amendola on Lap 7, which brought the whole field together again, in a sprint race to the finish. However, Drugovich survived the last ditch effort from Martono to claim his fifth win of the season.
Meanwhile, Falchero kept fellow countryman Gachot at bay to complete the rostrum position, with Karkosik rounding off the Top 5. Singapore's Danial Frost made up three positions to be sixth, leapfrogging seventh placed Dylan Young in the process.
America's Robert Megennis was shown the black and white flag for track limits, as he went on to finish eighth - making up an impressive eight places from his start position. In an almost similar way, Perdana Putra Minang made up six places to be ninth.
The Top 10 was rounded off by Henning Enqvist, with Manual Maldonado in 11th leading the rest of the finishers. The Venezuelan was followed by Nazim Azman, Harri Jones, Pavan Ravishankar and Kurt Hill.
