MRF F1600: Nayan Chatterjee starts of final weekend at MMRT with Race 1 win

The Mumbaikar dominated the proceedings from pole to win his first race of the season.

Nayan Chatterjee brought his fine form into the final round of the MRF F1600 Championship at Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai after winning a comfortable race from lights-to-flag in Race 1 on Saturday morning.

The Mumbaikar made a good start to keep Raghul Rangasamy and Goutham Parekh behind, both of whom looked to get Chatterjee at one stage. But he managed to pull out a gap and eventually score his first win of the season by a healthy margin of 3.346s.

Rangasamy kept the title picture in mind to secure second from rival Parekh - the former managing to extend his advantage with only two races remaining. In fact, Parekh was in a spot of bother with Arya Singh not very far behind.

The Kolkata-based driver had a better run in Race 1 after he managed to clear Sandeep Kumar at the start to finish in touching distance of Parekh, while Nirmal Uma Shanker held a train of seven cars behind.

Shanker also cleared Kumar as did Yash Aradhya but they were still closely knit on the track. Shanker held off Aradhya by only 0.315s for fifth with Kumar on Aradhya's tail. For Kumar, it was a title hurting result who finds himself in an uphill battle to topple Rangasamy and Parekh.

Karminder Singh recovered to eighth after the Delhi-based driver lost out to Ashwin Datta at the start. Datta then slipped to 10th after Bala Prasad also cleared him in the closing stages with Keith Desouza making three places to 11th.

Rupesh Sivakumar, Chetan Korada and Sai Sanjay rounded out the 14 finishers in the race which no retirements.
