MRF F1600: Raghul Rangasamy wins Race 1 dominantly at MMRT in Round 3

The Chennai-based driver secured a lights-to-flag victory to open the weekend.

Raghul Rangasamy led comfortably in Race 1 of the 2018 MRF F1600 Championship's Round 3 at Madras Motor Race Track from pole on Saturday morning, with Sandeep Kumar in second and Arya Singh behind.

The driver from Chennai started to build in a huge lead as Kumar was being chased off closely by Singh, Nirmal Uma Shanker, Keith Desouza and a train of cars. Slowly Rangasamy got away nicely but Kumar came under huge pressure by the cars behind.

However, he held onhis position as Singh lost out in the fight. Desouza was the man on charge after he first cleared Shanker and then Singh in the left-hander taking the inside to move to third, just when Singh was trying to overtake Kumar.

But Desouza's reign in the Top 3 was short-lived as he dropped out allowing Shanker and Goutham Parekh to capitalise when they both managed to clear Singh. In no time it was Shanker in third with Parekh looking strong behind.

At the front though, Rangasamy took the win at ease with Kumar managing to keep second after early troubles, while Shankar completed the podium from Parekh - the latter could be given a penalty though. Nabil Hussain rounded out the Top 5.

Hussain too managed to get ahead of Singh who eventually finished sixth from Nayan Chatterjee. The Mumbaikar started well but lost positions in the middle, only to regain few in the end. Ashwin Datta was eighth behind.

Newcomer Bala Prasad and Karminder Singh rounded out the Top 10 with Vishnu Prasad in 11th and Chetan Korada 12th. Desouza eventually crossed the line in 13th ahead of Sai Sanjay, followed by Yash Aradhya and Rupesh Sivakumar.
