MSVT Track DAY at Oulton park review.

Oulton is a very enjoyable and rewarding track.

For our first track day of 2017 we booked through MSV Track day's, It was abit early in the year as it was on the 21st February but we learned alot about our car's and what to expect when booking a track day that early in the year.

Oulton park

Oulton Park Circuit is in Little Budworth in Tarporley Cheshire (CW6 9BW)

The most commonly used circuit layout is the International Circuit at 2.69 miles however they do use two other configurations which are called Island Circuit at 2.26 miles and Foster's at 1.66 miles. These layout's are rarely used on track day so i'm not going to spend any time discussing them.

The International Circuit is an FIA grade 3 circuit and the lap record is 1:24.68 by Gareth Rees in a Super Nova (Reynard-Cosworth 95D) in 1996 F2 car.

Our Experience of OuLTON PARK

On arrival we found the MSV team to be very professional, Everything was clearly labelled and they made sure they gave beginner's the extra time they needed to get to grips with what happen's on track and what to do in different situation's.

Once we completed the driver's briefing we move on to the the noise test and the mandatory 3 sighting laps.

Arguably the downside to booking a track day as the race season was about to start was that most of the car's that were in attendance were using the day for pre-season testing. We had Two Tegiwa backed M3 Cup car's, Various MX-5 cup car's including former touring car driver/commentator Paul O'Neill and Sir Chris Hoy Driving a Super 7 to name a few.

Paul Sheard had a massive presence on the day.

The morning session was plagued by red flags as various car's left the circuit and usually needed to be recovered to the pit. on 3 separate occasion's I left the pit and had to return on my out lap however it was bad luck and Karam was racking the laps up.

It started to rain during lunch and we noticed the gaps started to close as some of the slower car's from the morning session were getting closer to the faster boy's but after a little while the rain stopped and the weather started to clear the gaps started to reappear.

By around 3:45 most of the big boy's were finished and the track was pretty much empty, I took it as my time to shine and got some nice clean laps in. I managed my longest stint of the day at 12 laps and found the whole experience more rewarding especially as I had struggled with brake judder and loss of power from a faulty cam angle sensor for most of the day.

Summary

In summary both of us feel that we will visit Oulton Park again by the end of the year, The track is excellent and it's a very rewarding experience. It's also good value for money as Oulton Park can be booked for as low as £139.00 depending on the time of year despite most of the BTCC circuits charging £239+ pretty much all year round.
