My Automotive Guilty Pleasures
Some cars are just so weird you can't help but love them!
We all have that one guilty pleasure whether it be music, movies, food or cars that we don't want to share because it might be a little embarrassing. Well since this is an automotive based platform here are some oddball cars that I really like that people might think I'd have to be mad to think are cool. And no there is not a damn EV on this list James, Jeric and Henry who keep trying to convert me! (Please take this as a joke, don't send a mob hit on me)
Honestly who wouldn't want to drive this ridiculous car, it just looks like so much fun! If not slightly dangerous, I would love to fling one of these around a Go-Kart track and get some hilarious results!
This sexy Pimp-wagon is legitimately cool and nobody knows it. It's a mid-engined, supercharged, RWD with AWD available mini-van. You don't ever get combinations like that, the Previa is unique and interesting not fast or rare. Me and my dad always joke when we see one that it's "The world's coolest mid-engined vehicle!" and well after years of joking I now actually love the Previa. I enjoy it's oddball styling, it's interesting engine placement and especially that it's supercharged!
Most people hate on the SSR for being "ugly" or just another bad attempt from the 2000's to recapture the classic style from years gone by but I like the styling and the fact that it was a real factory hot rod with the early models getting the 5.3L LS and later models getting the fantastic 6.0 LS2 making 400hp! So unlike the Plymouth Prowler the SSR had the go to match the show. It deserved a lot more success than it got, and still isn't getting enough attention!
Lincoln Town Car
Everyone loves the Crown Victoria as it's an American icon and one of the coolest police cars in history but they're is less love for it's Grandpa actually probably it's Great Grandpa (Because they are mainly owned by people in their 80's). The Town car may be boring to look at and have a very beige interior, but it had the same 4.6L V8 as the Mustang GT at the time meaning tons of aftermarket support, so you can blow the doors off of them young wiper-snappers in your boomer-mobile!
1st and 2nd gen Ford Explorer
These get a lot of unfair hate due to the infamous Firestone controversy, where the tires would randomly explode causing the vehicle to roll, but they look really cool and have the same chassis and suspension as the Ranger which is widely known in the desert racing world for being a fantastic truck, and unlike the Ranger the 2nd gen Explorer had the 5.0L V8 as an option.
Another ugly duckling the Gremlin is considered to be one of the worst cars ever made, but that doesn't stop me for liking it's fun 70's styling and AMC 304 ci. V8 engine option. I love the way these look when they're hot rodded as well. I saw one with a built AMC 304 in it at the drag strip once and it sounded fantastic, went like hell and most importantly put the Gremlin on my radar as a cool and underrated car.
