So, it’s been around a month since I purchased my mighty 1.8L Vauxhall Vectra. And for most of that month its been sat on my drive. I’ve driven it 3 times. And its cost me £300
So, what’s wrong…?
Well the front brakes were binding, very badly on the driver’s side. When we got home from the dealers (around a 1 hour drive, mainly motorway) the driver’s side front brake was absolutely cooking. I’m sure I could have lit a cigarette off the heat of the brakes.
We contacted the dealer and he agreed to send over two new front brake pads which turned out to be excellent Pagid brake pads. The mechanic squealed with joy when he saw them.
We were going to use a friends mechanic however he was busy and wasn’t available so I decided to ring around local garages to see if they would fit the new pads. But due to “Insurance Reasons” no local garage would fit customers own parts. So after ringing around friends, one of my mates recommended I use his mechanic.
So after speaking to the mechanic he agreed to fit the parts and I was able to take the car over to him in 3 days’ time. Took the car over and after getting lost and having to ring the poor bloke about 4 times to get into the yard, finally got the brake pads fitted. YAY!
Until I received a text from the mechanic saying that I needed the front two brake calipers replaced. Fuck sake. That’s another big dent on my ever decreasing bank account. So after again speaking to the car dealer, and only getting £50 from him towards the price of one caliper. I’m having to pay over £200 for the new calipers, not even including the caliper fitting. I could cry just thinking about it.
I’m hoping that I don’t have to pay too much, but you never know. If I’d of know that this was going to be so expensive, I would have got a newer Skoda Octavia on Finance.
If anyone has some money that they don’t want anymore, I’ll happily take donations.
But at least I can finally drive my car now. It’s fast, a lot faster than I was expecting it to be. Turns out there’s a big difference between a 1.4L Corsa and a 1.8L Vectra. Driving my car is just basically me scaring the shit out of my parents and really resisting the urge to floor it. Its also very big. A lot bigger than a Corsa or Fiesta, which makes parking more hassle then I would like, but nevertheless I love it, and I can’t wait till I pass my test and can drive without my parents shouting in my ear every 0.3 seconds.
