My first proper watch: a Vostok komandirskie

It is absolutely amazing

I have always really liked watches, but until now, never owned a cool watch or a watch that I even thought was cool. For comparison, here is the watch I used to have...

Ew, is that a huge pile of shit? no, it's a watch, but it is very hard to tell the difference

As you can see, it is utter crap. So crap that most of it fell off. I have had 3 of these, the first I broke playing conkers, the second I broke by heating it up with a blow torch until it exploded (yes, watches explode when you heat them up apparently) and this third one just broke on its own. After a while of not wearing watches I decided to get a proper watch. A watch with some character, a watch that wouldn't explode, but also a watch that wouldn't empty my bank account. After some thorough research (looking on ebay) I decided on this vostok komandirskie.

I love pretty much everything about this watch, the way it looks, the way it feels and everything else. The design is very cool and I really like the red star and the chunky numbers. One of my favorite things is how unbreakable it feels, like you could run it over with a tank and the tank would break. It also supposedly can go 20m underwater, but I will not be testing that.

Does anyone know what it says on the back?

  • That's a really cool watch, my congrats! The words on the back say Waterproof, and Russia. And the name itself, Komandirskie, means "intended for an officer in charge", so even the name itself is cool 👍

  • Soviet and post-Soviet watches are awesome. I own a Komandirskie and I love it. How do you feel about the wobbly crown?

    • It could be a bit annoying i guess , but doesnt really annoy me that much

    • yeah it's a bit confusing at first, but apparently it's a feature. They made it like that deliberately so that the crown wouldn't transfer the damage from a potential impact to the movement
