My new list of the most beautiful cars ever made
As time progresses, opinions change - and mine is no different
A little over two years ago, I wrote the article 'The most beautiful cars ever made' to mention five cars that stood out to me as 'beautiful' in some way. I wanted to have a unique point of view that would attract attention and encourage engagement, but I never expected it to do as well as it did, with the opinion piece becoming my most popular article of all time. Recently, I realised that our opinions of everything are always changing. And, when I looked back to that career-defining article of mine, this discovery made so much sense. So, here is my new list...

5 - BMW 507
Built as a grand touring roadster mainly for export to the United States, the stunning 507 (a successor to the legendary 328) was too expensive for most buyers, with just 252 units built. Although it is often overshadowed by the good-looking Mercedes-Benz 300SL, the Beemer is much better in terms of exterior design, with amazing proportions and a far more handsome face. The BMW 507 is one of the most iconic vehicles of the time for its appearance, rarity, pedigree and high value, and it remains one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

4 - Ferrari F40
Built to celebrate the firm's 40th anniversary, Ferrari's F40 cemented itself in history as one of the greatest cars ever made. The visceral driving experience - Ferrari's main focus for their new flagship supercar - was lauded by critics all over the world. Most people would likely a different Ferrari for their 'most beautiful' list, but I absolutely adore its happy-looking face and body that is distinctively charming from all angles. While the F40 became famous for the way it drove, it also deserves to be recognised for its incredibly gorgeous appearance.

3 - Alpine A110
Manufactured between 1961 and 1977, the long-running Alpine A110 found its fame in the ICM, later known as the WRC. With a low weight, a decent amount of power and excellent handling, the A110 won the inaugural World Rally Championship in 1973. Not only was the Alpine one of the best rally cars of the time, it was by far the most captivating to look at. Its most defining feature, the dual headlamps, are part of what makes it so beautiful. The Alpine A110 exudes a charming aura, one that allows you to realise the beauty of Alpine's legendary rally machine.

2 - De Tomaso Pantera GT5
As the first car so far to have been featured on the old list, it is obvious that I have loved the Pantera for a long time. As well as being an icon of the automotive world - being the most well-known of the 20th century Italian-American sports cars - the De Tomaso Pantera was incredibly gorgeous, especially in GT5 trim with better-looking wheels, a front air dam, flared fenders and a pair of side skirts. These cosmetic upgrades, while revitalising the then 10-year-old design, also made the Pantera look even more beautiful than it did before.

1 - Toyota 2000GT
That's right: after more than two years, Toyota's magnificent 2000GT is still at the top of my list. While not as well-known as its similar-looking European rival, the Jaguar E-Type, this Japanese beauty got its proportions spot on, as well as having more attractive styling overall. Toyota's expertly sculpted bodywork flows from front to rear, completed by classic pop-up headlamps, delightful driving lamps, and a smoother take on the Kammback-style rear. The Toyota 2000GT is not just a brilliant car, it is a work of art that deserves to be at the very top of this list.
