This Proposition probably won't influence anything, But I'm gonna sacrifice a goat and the neighbors Prius anyway. I've made it clear on this tribe that I personally (opinions are not facts, if you disagree and have good reasons, I respect your ability to make your own beliefs without whining because you don't agree.) dislike modern range rovers but love older landies.
I Always thought of land rover as being a without compromise offroader that had only the necessary fixings to go where you needed to go. The Land Rover name now focuses on technologically luxurious vehicles that cover up there offroad roots with tech and comfort when old ones literally had nothing in the way of pure, brutal, offroading.
Now To my point. I really Like the Defender Works 70th anniversary edition, It has some modern features, but they don't take away from the unmistakable truth that it is still a defender. I like it, as i'm sure other older land rover enthusiasts are, however i'm assuming there are many who like it but would not pay what it costs for what it is. Its brilliant, but expensive as crap! It may be a defender (in the states, there spendy as is) and its new bells and whistles though more subtle than range rovers today (despite the 500hp v8 which is far from subtle), It doesn't justify the 200,000 pricetag in my mind. I mean the v8 is pretty damn cool, but still, I want a new defender that suits the needs of someone who would get the old defender.
So know for my Proposition.... Land Rover (not should, but would be great) should make a new defender that is the same as the defender works V8 In terms of looks, and body, but without the expensive V8, all the fancy tech. Standard Tech like climate control could use improvement from prior defender's but I wouldn't want a touch screen gps. So basically a defender works V8 minus the insane V8, the gps, and surround sound speakers, and ditch that 8 speed auto crap, 4 speed manual to keep it classic (with low range as well) or even a 5 speed dogs leg and a six speed auto for those who can't drive a manual. The driveline that allows for tech to transfer 90 percent of the torque to the front or rear wheels when needed is cool, but should be an option.
Long story short, My Idea of a new defender is a defender works V8 70th anniversary edition, that is an improvement over previous defender's so it is made more useable to the average person, but without all the bells and whistles (and the expensive v8) that a regular person can't afford. So lets get land rovers out of the hands of soccer moms (unless there tasteful and drive good stuff) and back to the real Land Rover Fans.
