My top 10 wings

A wing is about so much more than mere aerodynamics; it's a statement of intent, a signal of potential; they're a flourish, a final flick of the designer's pen, an elegant seraph to the car's body. A wing can integrate seamlessly into the flow of the car's shape or break out of it as a glorious, disruptive reminder that be it beautiful or not, this thing was made to damn near fly. You won't be surprised to learn, then, that I quite like a wing. These are my 10 favourites. I'd like to know if you agree or have other suggestions.

1) Dodge Viper ACR

A lesson in how not to bother with integration: it gets 0 points for style or subtlety but DAMN it's got impact

2) Ford Escort RS Cosworth

It's a double wing. If one wing is a good thing, then two is double good

3) Porsche 911 Turbo (930)

The original and possibly the best. The dream tea tray for the eighties generation

4) Dodge Charger Daytona

Yes, just yes. One drove into the petrol station where I worked as a teenager and I fainted clean away with lust

5) Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991)

Ahem, yes. Technical, serious and finished in matt black; how I like everything in my life

6) Pagani Zonda 760 RS

Oh please, you mustn't do this to us Zonda. But I'm so glad you do

7) Ferrari F40

A wing SO good it doesn't look real

8) Subaru Impreza WRX STi

A wing on a baseball cap. Yes please

9) Lamborghini MurciƩlago LP670-4 SV

Oh god, the wing is actually sculpted. It does stuff to the air as well as my trouser region

10) Koenigsegg One: 1

This maybe should be my number one wing: it's a piece of sculpture
