My Top 5 Favourite Racing Games Of All Time

As I get older, my life seemingly becomes harder to understand. A few years back, I had just left school and gone into college as an innocent teenager who spent most of his time in bed. Nowadays, I'm a full-time university student, my love life is non-existent and I spend too much time playing video games. The one thing that has got me through all of this is my love of said racing games, and with that I'm gonna list my five favourite racing games of all time...

5) F1 CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION (2007)

As the first ever F1 game to be released on the seventh generation of game consoles, F1 Championship Edition had a lot to live up to - and it did a bloody good job. For its time, the graphics were looked very close to the real-life F1 - and with improvements made to career mode (such as the car evolution) and a more hands on approach that the player could have in terms of their career path meant that myself and many others enjoyed playing this game.

4) GRAN TURISMO 6 (2013)

As the final Gran Turismo game to be released before GT Sport last year, GT6 was a further evolution of the critically acclaimed series. With 41 tracks and 1,245 cars to choose from, and the addition of an advanced track designer - this was a game that was well ahead of its time in terms of single-player, but still lacked a little in terms of online racing and the absence of the proper endurance races in A-Spec & B-Spec made it second favourite to the next entry...

3) GRAN TURISMO 5

In my opinion, this was (and still is) the greatest Gran Turismo game that Polyphony have made. With over 1,000 cars and 77 tracks to race in - this was a statement to its competitors that Gran Turismo was not an arcade series anymore. This was as close as you could get to a track day as possible (without taking out a mortgage on sim racing equipment, which is quite stupid) - and it showed through the exquisite graphics and driving models for its time. Also, this game's soundtrack was immense. Just saying.

2) F1 05

As I stated before - in my first ever Retro Racing Game Review on this site - this was my favourite racing game growing up. In 2005, F1 05 was considered a game changer for the sub-genre - not only in terms of its presentation, but in the way it allowed even the most amateur of players to partake in all of its wonderful activities. I remember the days of winning the F1 Drivers Championship with Minardi in this game - a much simpler time for myself, before adulthood came along...

But as time passes, and more F1 games are released - F1 05 has been dethroned as my number one...

1) F1 2018

Boy, did Codemasters deliver on this one eh? I have spent the past month and a half of my life addicted to this game, and in the words of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons Movie - "life well spent!". It is a true testament to Codemasters's efforts these past few years with the F1 game franchise finally paying off with what I believe to be the best entry of all-time, and that's why I have placed it as my number one favourite racing game...
