NASCAR's return reached Daytona 500 ratings
The highly-anticipated return draws some of the biggest ratings in recent years
After a long ten weeks for NASCAR fans, the sport finally returned at Darlington. Fans showed their excitement, with the race drawing one of the highest ratings of all in recent years, save the Daytona 500.
The track was empty with no fans in attendance, but the racing was just as good as always
It even managed to nearly match the numbers from the 500. 7 million viewers tuned in to the biggest NASCAR race of the year, while this managed 6.3 million. Compared to the final race before the break, the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas, it was a 32% increase, a big gain.
The green flag waved to start the race and to start the NASCAR season up again
Ratings had already been up this season. With the efforts made by NASCAR to ensure the safety of everyone at the track allowing racing to resume, it's reasonable to expect a boost in popularity. Mike Joy commented that it was a great day for "this sport to make its return and to do it in a safe manner and have a great race to show for it.” With lots of races coming up quickly, this effort could be a massive boost for NASCAR.
