Nelson Piquet Jr joins Mitch Evans in Jaguar for 2017/18 Formula E season
Panasonic Jaguar Racing has announced a new line-up of Nelson Piquet Jr and Mitch Evans for the 2017/18 FIA Formula E Championship, with Ho-Pin Tung staying on as the reserve driver.
The 32-year-old joins the British outfit after spending three years with NIO Formula E Team (previously NextEV & China Racing) - having clinched the drivers' championship in the inaugural season.
Piquet replaces Adam Carroll for the season, after the British driver only managed two points finishes last season, ending up 21st in the standings.
"It’s a great honor to join Panasonic Jaguar Racing. Jaguar has such a strong history in motorsport and it’s an exciting time to become part of the team,” said the Brazilian.
"Their commitment to electric motorsport is inspiring and I’m looking forward to working with the team.”
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Kiwi, moving from GP2 Series to Formula E, finished 14th in the standings - capturing the team's best result of fourth in Mexico.
“After such a great season it's fantastic to be continuing with Panasonic Jaguar Racing in season four,” said Evans. "As a team, we are moving in the right direction, and I can't wait for the kick off in Hong Kong.”
Team Director James Barclay added: “We are hugely excited to have Nelson on board for Season Four. Mitch was one of the outstanding rookies of the season with some great qualifying and race performances.
"With our new driver lineup, we are aiming to be a strong challenger on the grid, regularly competing for points.
"We have taken a lot of learnings from Season Three and the team have been working extremely hard throughout the off-season, focusing on the design and development of the new Jaguar I-TYPE 2."
Jaguar made its racing return in the all-electric series last season, finishing 10th in the constructors' standings, scoring 27 points.
The 2017/18 season kicks-off with a double-header in Hong Kong during the December 2-3 weekend, with a total of 14 races, culminating in Montreal, with another double-header during the July 28-29 weekend.
The 2017/18 grid so far:
Renault e.dams: Sebastian Buemi & Nicolas Prost
Mahindra Racing: Nick Heidfeld & Felix Rosenqvist
