New car - Choosing an everyday, no nonsense new car to buy
This is my story of how I ended up choosing the 2018 VW polo 1.5 diesel as my 1st car.
I’m from India , and buying new cars here is not easy as the rest of the more developed nations , Everyone is obsessed (decreasing in the recent times) about the fact that more money = more people or economic to drive and maintenance free even the car Manufacturers and what I need was a small fun car that would handle my weekend drive requirement pretty well , whilst being practical and not ridiculously expensive…
• Search began with HONDA JAZZ , peppy 90PS engine on a considerably heavy body .. Good pick .. But wanted to look further
• Next was the Ford Figo 1.5 Diesel, good car , but didn’t like the handling and couldn’t stand the small 14” alloy wheels
• After this was the crowd favourite, Suzuki Swift (India’s largest selling hatchback) it was alright , but it was too common , literally every street in my area has 4 swifts
• My last option was the VW polo , since I knew I would like it I postponed the test drive till I exhausted all my other options , and Boy was I impressed ….
It’s so obvious that VW built the polo keeping in mind the driver first and then the rest , the steering is so neat and precise, all the electronics are driver centric , and the best thing of them all (in this segment, in India ) the brilliant 1.5 TDI 105BHP. And to top it all it comes with German built quality.
PS: I did not consider any Korian cars because I don’t like them (they market cars as gadgets , which I don’t like)
Hope it was a good read …
