New Racing Games for you to Look Foward to in 2022 Part 1
2022 is definitely going to be a great year for racing games
In 2021, there weren't many great racing games that came out. However, there were many games that were either pushed back or announced to be released in 2022 and it seems like this year will be an incredible year for racing games. *All games mentioned in part one of this Article will cover games with confirmed release dates.*
1.) GRID Legends
-Release Date: February 25th, 2022
-Platform(s): Xbox 1,Xbox S/X, PS4, PS5, PC
GRID Legends Promotional Art
I'm really excited for GRID Legends and I'm hoping the new game builds well off of GRID 2019 which was decent but got a bit stale just grinding through the game after a while with no real reward in my opinion. Hopefully, the game will breathe new life into the series with more engaging gameplay and maybe even feel more like the original GRID game back in 2008. If that is the case, I think it will be a great game. This will also be Codemasters' second release following EA's acquisition of them.
Gran Turismo 7
-Release Date: March 4, 2022

For those who love sim-racers and have a PS4 or PS5, "The real driving simulator", as it's known is back with another main installment in the franchise and is bigger and better than before. On top of being absolutely gorgeous to look at, Gran Turismo 7 is promising more cars (420+) on launch which is more than the number of cars in GT Sport's whole life cycle as well as 90 tracks. Other things mentioned are an improved photo mode and a bigger focus on car customization.
3.) Night Runners (Demo)
-Release Date: April 23, 2022
If you haven't heard of this game, I don't blame you because it hasn't had a lot of coverage on it. To those who don't know, it is a PC-only game that is based on the 90s' and early 00s' tuner culture in Japan and the gameplay that is out there is somewhat similar to the old Tokyo Extreme Racer games but with potentially more in-depth tuning and customization. If you want some early 2000s racing game nostalgia, I think you will enjoy this game. Keep in mind there is no full release date yet, but the demo for this game will launch on April 23rd for PC.
4.) CarX Street
-Release Date: September 8, 2022
Car X Street
The next game in the CarX series has more of a street racing focus and will have an open world with a day-night cycle as well with a good mix of canyon roads to drift around and city streets to race in. It is also the first CarX game that won't start on mobile going straight for a PC-only launch. It could be ported over to consoles sometime post-launch but that remains to be seen. Also given the fact that the developers delayed the game from November 2021 to Sep. 8th 2022 because they felt it would've been "half-baked". This goes to show that the developers care about their game and it could end up being really fun.
5.) Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
-Release Date: September 22, 2022
-Platform(s): Xbox 1, Xbox S/X, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch
TDU Solar Crown
When Solar Crown's trailer launched last year, I was really excited about this game, and I was really disappointed when I learned it was releasing in 2022, instead of 2021. That said, the beloved TDU franchise seems to be making a huge splash after being largely absent since TDU 2 launched back in 2011, and it looks like it will be better than ever and even Nintendo fans can get in on the franchise since it will be coming to the Switch.
