Nico Rosberg has bought a Rimac C_Two

The 2016 Formula 1 World Champion has scored himself a hell of a new ride!

Since retiring from racing in 2016 after his triumphant Formula 1 World Championship win, Nico Rosberg has become a huge presence both on TV as an F1 pundit for Sky Sports and on social media via his YouTube channel, where he uploads great content on a regular basis ranging from vlogs to tutorials about how to master the various tracks of the F1 calendar. He's also, perhaps more crucially, become a huge investor in green technology and sustainable businesses. He's a shareholder and long-term investor in Formula E and also heads up the Greentech Festival, an industry show focused entirely on green technology that takes place once a year.

It wasn't that long ago that Rosberg was hinting that he would be buying a new hypercar to somewhat fill the void until his much-delayed Mercedes AMG One is delivered and he asked his viewers what car he should choose from a choice of a few of the heavy-hitter hypercars at the time. One of those options was the Rimac C_Two and now Rosberg has announced that he decided to buy his own example of the fully-electric hypercar!

Rosberg's Rimac C_Two is one of only 150 examples that will be made. He ordered the car last year after having a meeting with the company's founder and CEO Mate Rimac and it's due to arrive at the same time as all the other customer cars in 2021. This is all despite delays due to COVID-19! He also just recently visited Rimac's headquarters in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia to configure his car to his exact specifications. Rosberg, much like his old teammate Lewis Hamilton, has a keen eye for getting a great-looking spec on his cars, so I have no doubt his C_Two is going to look brilliant!

It's not surprising that Rosberg has decided to invest in an all-electric hypercar considering his interest in eco-mobility, but it being a totally electric machine doesn't mean that it's not capable of brain-shredding levels of performance. The C_Two can go from 0-100 mph in 4.3 seconds (faster than Rosberg's 2016 Mercedes Formula 1 car!) and it's projected to be able to hit a top speed of 258 mph. That's territory that puts it on a par with much of the fastest production cars in the world such as the Bugatti Chiron, the Koenigsegg Regera, the McLaren Speedtail and the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Mate Rimac himself has stated: "For us, it’s an honour that Nico chose to become a part of the Rimac Automobili family. Nico is a great guy through and through – as a driver, sustainability entrepreneur, tech lover and future-focused individual, he understands exactly what we want to achieve with the C_Two; simply, that we want to set new standards for performance by using advanced electric technology developed entirely in-house here at Rimac Automobili. The car we have created is built almost from the ground up by the team here in Croatia. And to have one of the world’s best drivers give us the ultimate seal of approval on that design and engineering by buying one is an amazing feeling."

Knowing how great Rosberg is with getting content out on social media, I'm very much looking forward to next year when he takes delivery of his new Rimac and gets to show us all how incredible this car is. It would also be really interesting to see how it compares up against his AMG One when that eventually gets delivered too. Whatever happens, Rosberg is definitely a very lucky guy to be able to bag himself an example of one of these cars!
