Nissan is building a Nismo Black edition for the Versa Note
In many ways, the Versa Note is the pizza margherita of the Nissan line-up, in that it is the conservative choice. Ideally, the average buyer would like a GTR or a second hand 370Z or who knows what else, but in the end they end up with the Versa because it's reliable and cheap and safe. Like the margherita.
Well, now Nissan is going make a Nismo Black Edition of the Versa Note, which is a bit like garnishing your margherita with jalapeno and pineapple.
The bad news, or good news depending on your point of view, is that this car will only be available in Japan so don't expect to find a Versa Nismo in your local dealer. Unless you live in Japan, that is. It is based on the Note Nismo that Nissan launched in Japan last year and it is going to be available with three engine options. There's a 1.2 L three-cylinder engine, a hybrid e-Power version of said 1.2 L, and a 1.6 L e-Power. All three come with a five-speed manual and FWD.
So there's no added power but there is some extra zeal and style. There's a new bonnet, with a black stripe, a new black roof, a new spoiler and red details on the side skirt and front bumper. There's also a shark-fin antenna and an improved chassis.
Inside you'll find a sporty interior with special black and red Recaro buckets seats, and there are more red bits here and there. Can never get enough of those, can you?
I think it looks funky and interesting. Then again it doesn't really matter what I think because I don't live in Japan so I couldn't buy it even if I wanted to. It would be great if they actually made a performance version of the Versa Note, and if they made it available worldwide.
If you live in Japan and want to buy it, the Nismo Black is going to be officially introduced at the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Motor Show before going on sale domestically next month, with prices between 2,682,900 and 3,087,700 yen (about $25-29k).
