Nissan leaf crash test reminds us to not go sideways into a pole

So this is pretty terrifying.

What you've just witnessed is a German company crashing a Nissan Leaf, long time best selling electric car here in the US until Tesla came along, sideways into a post.

Now this is a pretty drastic scenario and makes up such a small percentage of all crashes through the world, but it's an important test to show. This crash was from 47mph at a direct side impact to the b-pillar section of this Nissan Leaf. Note how the car seems to fold in half where impacted.

Imagine if this was a 90s era car? it would be completely folded in on itself. The Leaf video crash isn't typical in many cars, but it also shows that we still have a long way to go in side-crash safety.

  • I have a Leaf, same color in fact. This doesn’t bother me, show me a car that passes this test and I’ll be impressed.

    • Yeh. I'm never getting into a pole either. They are just so ungrateful. All tall and moody. Never getting out of the way when you need them to. Like they own the road or something 😀

    • I honestly think the Leaf wanted to do a Vegan Strip-tease but... it failed on the entry to spin around the pole.
