Nissan's next EV will be a sub 5 second 0-60 crossover
As this article being written, the Nissan Leaf is the best selling EV of all time. Did you know that? I bet you didn't. Nissan has moved well over 100,000 Leafs over the course of the past decade. It's safe to say they know what they're doing in the EV realm, even though Tesla and Porsche are getting the lion's share of the recent headlines.
With that said, Nissan unveiled their next gen EV products which include the IMx zero emissions concept back at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017. This previewed what Nissan will be coming out with in 2020 and 2021 for EVs. And the news on this is quite good.
According to reports, Nissan's next EV will be a crossover. No doubt good for sales, but because it's an EV it'll have a little party piece as well in the form of a sub five second 0-60 time. And that will be packaged in a vehicle the size of a Nissan Rogue.
Imagine pulling up to a Subaru WRX in a normal looking crossover and then just smoking it off the line. I'm not the biggest EV fan, but that sounds like just so much fun.
But the biggest news here is not the 0-60 time. Even though that's what I like to focus on, general consumers don't really care about such statistics. The vehicle being a crossover is big because crossovers are the hottest segment in the industry, growing the most over the past five years. On top of that, Nissan reports that it will have around 300 miles of range, which should quell any range anxiety.
This information comes from a recent Nissan dealers' report where they were also told that the vehicle will be in the stature of a small Rogue, but the interior capacity of a mid-sized Murano. I cannot wait to see how they made that wizardry work.
With triple the range of the Leaf (which does 100 miles) this new crossover should be a force for the brand in 2021.
