A few days ago we carried a story about how the 482kw Ford GT set a new lap record at the USA's Nürburgring, VIRginia International Raceway. The supercar blasted around the technical 6.6km course in a time of 2:43. However, today, Chevrolet has confirmed that its ZR1 has obliterated the lap record with a new record of 2:37.25. The supercharged 6.2-litre LT5 V8 engined ZR1 trumped other competitors like the Mercedes-AMG GT R (2:43.4), Dodge Viper ACR (2:44.2) and the Porsche 918 Spyder (2:43.1). The record-breaking ZR1's V8 produces 563kw/969nm, and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, whilst also equipped with an optional front splitter, a fully adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, a retuned Magnetic Ride Control system, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. General Motors intends on taking the ZR1 to the 'Ring where they aim to set a sub-7 minute lap time. #StayTuned #TunedAutomotive #SomeShitAboutCars
