Alexander Peroni is forced to miss the Macau GP after his crash in FIA Formula 3 Championship at Monza as he pushes to recover for a return in 2020.

Peroni had a heavy impact after going airborne and landing upside down in a crash at Monza's sprint F3 race in his Campos Racing car. He was conscious and taken to the hospital and was subsequently ruled out of the 2019 finale at Sochi.

He was replaced by David Schumacher in the weekend. The Australian then flew back to Australia for rehab and was mulling to make a return for November's Macau GP. But his recovery will take a longer time as per the latest report from the doctors.

He has been wearing a neck brace ever since leaving the hospital and has been advised to keep it on for about three months, which means he cannot compete in Macau. His focus is now on a racing return in 2020, preferably for another season in F3.

"I can’t wait to get into the gym and then back on the racetrack, but for now a gentle walk is as good as it gets," said Peroni. Even light weight training is out. Hopefully I’ll be able to do some gentle resistance work in the pool in a month or so. At least it will be a start.

"I’m gutted to have to sit out the rest of the year, just when I was heading for my best race result in the championship. But for now there’s nothing I can do – it’s all up to the medical experts." The entry list for the 2019 Macau GP is yet to be revealed.

It would have been the first time for Peroni in Macau but he will have to wait another year, with the hope to recover well by the 2020 season start. Considering the heavy crash, the Australian was saved by the strength of the current generation race cars.
