- A typical Rachau Hillclimb entry.

Not Your average Hillclimb

Eurosport always did have a love of minority sports that filled a few timeslots. Back in the mid 90's they provided us with one of the greatest gifts they ever could. No it wasn't the 1996 trickshot championship starring Dennis Taylor. Every year they would send their cameras to a tiny village in Austria to watch the madness in Rachau.

The village of Rachau has a population of just over 600 people. Such was the reputation of the infamous Hillclimb, the event would regularly see 10,000-30,000 people screaming and laughing at the competitors attempts to climb the hill. Add the brilliant commentary of Martin Haven and you had some must see TV.

As you've probably guessed from this first video. The Rachau Hillclimb wasn't your average event. From the talented, to the lunatics; it was something special. You truly never knew what you were going to get. Whether it was cars, bikes, the occasional skidoo or even the chap that decided he wanted to ski down the hill. Once you've seen it, you'll wish it was still running.
