Apparently the Nurburgring lap record is set to fall (again). Well, that is if it hasn’t already. The culprit? The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

Yep, the raging bull is at it again- this time taking aim at the 6:47.3 production car lap record for the Nurburgring, currently held by the mighty Porsche GT2 RS. Those of you with more in-depth Lamborghini knowledge will recognise the ‘J’ or ‘Jota’ name from the Diablo Jota or the Miura SVJ of the 1970s.

Unlike the original SVJ, the Aventador SVJ isn’t built to meet any FIA regulations, but it still takes on the same hardcore, track-focused setup found in the Miura SVJ. Power-to-weight is set to see a notable improvement, with sources indicating a new power figure in the region of 800 bhp/596 kW (up from 750 bhp/552 kW found in the ‘standard’ SV). The expected drop in weight is unknown, but it will certainly weigh in under the SV’s 1525 kilograms/ 3362 pounds.

The Aventador SVJ will also benefit from the introduction of Lamborghini’s active aerodynamics system: Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA). The system was first introduced on the Hurucan Performante and involves channelling air through and around the car to control downforce and drag on specific regions of the car.

The spy-shots also reveal some small visual tweaks, including a new (no doubt very functional) splitter and rear diffuser, as well as a large rear wing and re-worked side skirts.

You can expect the Aventador SVJ to be released in extremely limited numbers- far less than the 600 Aventador SVs. The Diablo Jota was limited to just 28 models, while the Miura SVJ and Aventador Jota were one-offs. The production quantity of the Aventador SVJ has yet to be announced, but it will surely be a very valuable collectable- even more so if it does indeed claim the lap record of the infamous Nurburgring.
