Felipe Massa, it's fair to say, is a Formula 1 legend. Competing at the top level of motorsport for well over a decade, he has a long history with Italian team Ferrari (where he was World Champion for mere moments during an intense title battle with Lewis Hamilton), before joining Williams in 2014. Given his long and storied career, it was only fitting that the Brazilian drivers helmet paid tribute in his last home race of his career.
Designed by Jens Munser Designs, featuring a montage of Massa's stand-out career moments, overlaid with his usual flowing design and finished in the colours of the Brazilian flag, the helmet was a great concept, executed well.
Not content with just a special helmet design, Massa also had a custom race-suit design, featuring Brazilian flag elements on the arms and leg, plus the famous Martini livery was adjusted to include 'MASSA' and 'OBRIGADO' ('thank you' in Portugese) on the rear wing. It all made for an incredibly emotional occasion, especially when, after crashing out of the race in torrential conditions, Massa was given a fantastic reception from the grandstands, as well as from other teams coming out and lining the pit-lane, applauding and hugging him, during his walk back to the Williams garage. It's been great Felipe, thank you for all the entertainment!
