Official: future Alfa Romeo models will all be electrified
Hybrid and electric Alfas are on the way!
The European Union requires manufacturers to reduce their CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030. Massive electrification of vehicles is, for the time being, the only viable answer to meeting such a target. Jean Philippe Imparato, Alfa Romeo's CEO, is also banking on this strategy for the years to come.
All future models of the Italian brand will offer at least one electrified version, i.e. hybrid or electric. The car that will open the festivities will be the Tonale compact SUV, whose presentation has been postponed to 2022. Imparato is determined that the vehicle should be perfected in order to be on a par with the competition.
The internal combustion engine range will be gradually reduced and will be replaced by hybrids and plug-in hybrids. Fully electric versions will be offered in parallel. As for the models, Alfa Romeo will finally return to the compact car segment with the Giulietta, which will be based on the Peugeot 308 platform.
The Quadrifoglio variants will not disappear and will be continued in hybrid and perhaps even 100% electric form. Speaking of sportiness, Imparato does not close the door on a future electric sports model in coupé bodywork, such as a replacement for the Brera or the GT. Finally, the CEO confirms that Alfa Romeo will not leave the US.
