Official: the next Ford F-150 Raptor will get a V6

Is this good or bad news?

5w ago

Against the new RAM 1500 TRX, with its impressive 6.2-litre HEMI V8 engine delivering a whopping 707 PS, the Ford F-150 Raptor must now equip itself to fight, as it has long been unrivaled. Good news, the next generation is fast approaching.

Needless to say, fans are eagerly waiting for the vehicle. In addition to the obvious technological improvement brought by the fourteenth generation of the iconic pickup truck, the future F-150 Raptor will surprise under its hood. After countless rumors, the vehicle will officially adopt the current model's 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6.

Disappointment can already be seen on the faces of aficionados. They can be reassured that this V6 version could be paired with a more muscular model equipped with a V8 to effectively counter the RAM 1500 TRX. If this V8-powered variant is confirmed, however, it will arrive a few months after the presentation of the vehicle.

This juicy information comes from the f150gen14 website. As a reminder, the current Ford F-150 Raptor has a 3.5-litre V6 producing 456 PS and 692 Nm of torque. The future V6 F-150 Raptor will logically improve these figures and will approach the 500 PS mark. The new Ford F-150 Raptor will be introduced in the coming months.

  • Horrible decision by Ford here. V6's can be turbocharged to produce the same ad a V8 naturally asperated, but there is just something about a V8. Supercharged V8 would get not people to like it

  • I'm not a guy that loves Ford Raptors or pickup trucks in general, but even I find that a stupid idea. The Raptor especially should have a V8.

  • The market, regulations and the costs are the main criteria. As from an engineering standpoint it doesn't matter as much anymore if it is a V8 or V6. Also it is reasonable to use one type of engine block adapting components and engine maps. Especialy if you can use this type of engine from a mid size saloon to a hypercar. Also you get more benefits in terms of packaging, if you got less types of engines and gearbox combinations.
