One of my all time favorite cars: The Ford GT!
I try my best to write unbiased articles about truly amazing cars but...not toady!
The Ford GT was revealed all the way back in 2015 at the Detroit Motor Show. It was revealed alongside the Shelby GT350R and both cars were very hyped by automotive enthusiasts all over the world. Ford has been producing them since 2017 and continue to build them today, only they take their time in making it perfect for their customers. Many people did not approve of the 3.5L twin-turbocharged V-6 and some still don't and I will explain why I approve of the engine later on, but one thing that almost everybody agreed with was that the Ford GT is one of the most beautiful cars in the world!
Engine and transmission
As stated before the Ford GT used the 3.5L twin-turbocharged ecoboost V-6, however the engine was completely rebuilt from the ground up. New cylinder heads, new dry sump lubrication system, larger turbos, a new aluminium intake manifold, new camshafts and better timing components. All these changes brought the engine up to 647 horsepower and 550 lb ft of torque which is outstanding for a V-6 engine! As of 2020 the power output has been increased to 660 horsepower which is just extraordinary. Mated to this incredible engine is a 7-speed dual-clutch, shift paddle transmission. The thing about the 3.5L ecoboost is that it is an incredibly strong engine that has been proven to handle long-term abuse and not have any issues. The 3.5L V-6 is one of the best motors out there with all the power you can get out of it and yet you still know that it can handle whatever challenges you throw at it!
With 647-660 horsepower and weighing 3,354 lbs its bound to have a quick 0-60 time and a good top speed rating. The Ford GT can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph which is just insane! The Ford GT has also been built for the race-track and the GT has lots of racing technology to make an enjoyable experience while driving on the track. Maybe you want to take your GT to the drag-strip. It can achieve the 1/4 mile in just 10.8 seconds and at a speed of 134 mph. It will accelerate to 100 mph in just 6.2 seconds, so I can assure you that the Ford GT is plenty quick and fast!
Chassis and suspension
Under the Ford GT is a carbon fiber monocoque that is bolted onto both the front and rear sub-frames that are surrounded by carbon fiber body panels. All the glass components are made by Gorilla glass which means that the glass is very strong. It also reduces the weight of the GT as its thinner than normal glass. As for the lubrication system, Ford decided on a dry sump oil pump that has a capacity of 15.3 quarts or 14.5 L. As for the suspension the GT uses Pushrod suspension to provide more room for aerodynamic components. The suspension is hydraulically adjustable as well and it can drop the ride height from 4.7 inches to 2.8 inches depending on what mode the GT is in.
Aerodynamics and design
The Ford GT is undoubtedly very gorgeous and very aerodynamic. The Ford GT is mostly smooth and curvy lines with not sharp edges and large carbon fiber aero components all over the car like the Lamborghini Aventador SV or SVJ. The beautiful spoiler extends outward and up and its not to big and not to small. The GT has airflow tunnels built into the rear fenders and air can soar out the the taillights which are open. The car also has striking flying buttresses' that really give the car its gorgeous shape. One of the reasons why Ford decided on the ecoboost was that it was small and compact so that the car could have a channel design and that the engine would not stop them from being able to achieve that. The teardrop shape of the car makes the cockpit very tight and snug and you sit so close to your passenger that you are touching them with your shoulder. You may also notice some GT40 inspired details such as the vents in the hood and the cutaway nose. The headlights have a tiny similarity to the GT40 but its there. At the back of the car you have simple yet gorgeous circle taillights and dual exhausts straight in the middle of the car. The rear wing is active and it adjusts depending on what mode your in and driving conditions. It also acts as an aero brake which is great for track use and safety overall.
The Ford GT is on my top five list of my most favorite cars of all time. It is the most beautiful car I have ever layed my eyes on. I was so lucky to have seen one up close and person and ever since then I loved it more than I ever had. Ford prices them at $450,000, but you have to be a very exclusive person and you have to prove to Ford that you deserve one. If you can't get one from Ford it will cost you up to $2.5 million to own one! Thank you for reading! Have a great day!
