Like the crossovers of today, the Chrysler minivan was once king of the road. Everyone and their soccer mom had one of these, but only a handful came with a 5-speed manual. Cars & Bids is hosting an auction for one of these 5-speed vans, but this one has been swapped with a 2.4L turbo Chrysler unit.

It might look a little rough around the edges, but watch the seller's video and just listen to those sweet spooly noises. You'll quickly understand why the bid is up to $8,000. Imagine rolling up to RADwood in one of these with six of your friends, exhaust popping all the way. It's sporting a "period correct" body kit complete with rocker panels, rear wing, and front sun visor that subtly gives away it's sleeper status. The Caravan perfectly pulls off the white 15" cathedral style wheels from a LeBaron.

The odometer shows over 190k miles and the body is in need of a paint job, but this looks to be a great project with a lot of the groundwork already done. If I won this van, I would get the bodywork squared away, replace the windshield, and call it a day. The top bid is at $8,000 as I write this, and I can't imagine it climbing much higher with only a day left in the auction.

  • I had a 1984 Caravan with a 5 speed and the regular 2.2 engine. The local Dodge dealer had never seen one before, thought I was crazy for saying "A 2.2 with a 5 speed"

  • Reminds me of back in the day when people were putting the supercharged Buick 3.8 in the Pontiac Montana.
