In China ist der Autohersteller Ora als elektrische Kleinwagenmarke von Great Wall bekannt wie ein bunter Hund. In Europa kennt den Hersteller, die nur allzu gerne auf Elektroautos Im Retrodesign setzt, niemand. Das soll sich nach der IAA 2021 in München ändern.

Great Wall Motors kommt nach Europa und zeigt gleich zum Start mit seinen beiden Marken GWM Ora und Wey, wohin die Reise gehen soll. Während GWN Ora als elektrische Kleinwagen- und Kompaktwagenmarke positioniert werden soll, klopft Wey an die Premiumtore der deutschen Hersteller. „Mit GWM ORA bauen wir eine völlig neue Lifestyle-Marke in Europa auf. Wir sprechen eine Mode- und Lifestyle-orientierte Zielgruppe an und integrieren die Marke in die Kultur einer progressiven urbanen Gene- ration“, erläutert Rebecca Grajecki, Brand and Marketing Director Europe für WEY und GWM ORA.

Diese runden Kulleraugen des Ora Cat dürften insbesondere der Damenwelt gefallen. Das gilt auch für den Preis, denn das 4,24 Meter lange Elektromobil aus China soll in seiner Basisvariante gerade einmal 30.000 Euro kosten und ab kommendem Jahr auch in Europa angeboten werden. Für entsprechen Vortrieb des 1,5 Tonnen schwere Elektromodells sorgt ein Motor an der Vorderachse mit 126 kW / 171 PS / 250 Nm maximalem Drehmoment. Dank der 63-kWh-Batterie bietet der Ora Cat One eine Akkureichweite von 400 Kilometern. Aus dem Stand geht es in 3,8 Sekunden immerhin auf Tempo 50 und in 8,3 Sekunden auf Tempo 100. Die abgeregelte Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 160 km/h. Technisch ist das Kompaktmodell mit den Abmessungen einer VW Golf auf der Great-Wall-Plattform Lemon unterwegs.

Der Retrocharme aus dem Gesicht findet sich am Heck des Chinesen nur eingeschränkt wieder. Hier fallen in erster Linie die hoch sitzenden LED-Rückleuchten auf, die sich unterhalb der Fensterlinie von einer Seite zur nächsten ziehen. Das Be- und Entladen des Laderaums wird mit der hohen Ladekante jedoch kein Vergnügen. Schon angenehmer sieht es im Innern aus, denn der Ora Cat hat in dieser Klasse ein stattliches Raumangebot und zwei digitale Großbildschirme. Die Einstellungen des jeweiligen Fahrers erledigt kein Schlüssel oder eine Chipkarte, sondern eine Gesichtskennung, die je nach Fahrer Radiosender, Klimatisierung oder Sitzposition einstellt. Updates gibt es „over the air“ – auch Dank 5G-Funktechnik. Vorbestellbar ist der GWM Ora Cat ab Ende des Jahres. Die Auslieferungen sollen im zweiten Quartal 2022 starten.

These round, googly eyes of the Ora Cat should appeal to women in particular. A motor on the front axle with a maximum torque of 126 kW / 171 PS / 250 Nm provides the same propulsion of the 1.5 ton electric model. Thanks to the 63 kWh battery, the Ora Cat One offers a battery range of 400 kilometers. From a standing start it goes to 50 km / h in 3.8 seconds and 100 km / h in 8.3 seconds. The governed top speed is 160 km / h.

The retro charm from the face can only be found to a limited extent at the rear of the Chinese. The high-seated LED taillights that stretch from one side to the next underneath the window line are the most noticeable here. However, loading and unloading the cargo area will not be a pleasure with the high loading sill. It looks more pleasant inside, because the Ora Cat has plenty of space and two large digital screens in this class. The settings of the respective driver are not done by a key or a chip card, but by face identification that sets the radio transmitter, air conditioning or seating position depending on the driver. Updates are available "over the air" - also thanks to 5G radio technology. The GWM Ora Cat can be pre-ordered from the end of the year. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2022.
