Original Gone in 60 Seconds Mustang ’Eleanor’ just sold at auction

You would not beleive how much she went for!

In 1974 the world was introduced to a Ford Mustang Mach 1 called Eleanor in a movie called Gone in 60 Seconds which featured one of the longest car chases ever recorded.

A short while later in 2000 Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie starred in a remake of the film, only this time Eleanor was depicted as a custom 1967 Shelby GT500 and I think it is fair to say that many people saw through the cheesy acting and fell in love with Eleanor.

In the making of the film, 12 Shelby GT500’s were used and 5 of which were destroyed. For peace of mind for the next owner of this car in particular a certificate of authenticity from Cinema Vehicle Services went as part of the deal.

Let’s remember though, this isn’t just a movie prop that should go into a museum; this is Eleanor, a 5.7litre beauty that should be enjoyed. It’s worth noting though, unfortuantely the car doesn’t come with working nitrous like in the film.

This original custom 1967 Shelby GT500 went under the hammer at the Barret Jackson’s Scottsdale auction on the 19th January. The lucky buyer paid $385,000 for the privlidge which is $168,300 more than the last time the car was sold at the same auction 10 years ago.

What do you think? If you had the money would you pay that much?

  • Please take this as constructive criticism, but the content of this article looks like it was written by a high school student who grabbed facts off Wikipedia. Your first sentence doesn't even make sense "In 1974 the world was introduced to a Ford Mustang Mach 1 called Eleanor in a movie called Gone in 60 Seconds which featured one of the longest car chases ever recorded." --- So the movie was in 1974??? • One of the only 60s era cars I'd buy.

  • I assume the 5.7 litre is a GM 350. If so that’s a sin!
