Out of things to do in confinement? Here are Audi’s top film picks
Audi has made a list of their top 15 films. Of course, their cars feature massively in all of them.
How have you been coping with quarantine, self-isolation, confinement – or whatever we’re supposed to be calling it? For a lot of us, it’s already, or only, been a few weeks that we’ve been locked in our houses with nothing more than the internet to occupy us. If you’re out of ideas for stuff to do, Audi has you covered with a list of films to watch.
The brand has unveiled a specially curated list of 15 must-watch films to keep us entertained in this odd period. Surprise, surprise they all feature an Audi playing quite important roles.
15 films starring Audi models
Ever since E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial came out in 1982 starring an Audi 5000, the four rings have been prominent in blockbusters throughout cinema history.
In the 1990’s, we saw the S8 make an appearance in probably one of the best chase scenes in recent cinema in the film Ronin. That 1998 movie was followed up by The Insider in 1999 starring the A4 saloon.
The 2000’s is where Audi’s involvement in cinema really kicked off. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde in 2003 spawned the creation of the Candy Blue paint colour seen on the TT Roadster that features in the second of the Legally Blonde films.
In the 2006 film, Superman Returns Audi began its association with superhero flicks as Lois Lane is the proud owner of an A3 Sportback. The A5 got an appearance in 2007 with the thrilling Bourne Ultimatum.
2008 was a big year for Audi in Hollywood as its models played starring roles in not one, but two of the year’s big blockbusters. Famously, the R8, S5 and Q7 helped to show off Tony Stark’s extravagance in the first of the Iron Man films subsequently locking the brand in with the Marvel franchise. Furthermore, Taken starring Liam Neeson gave the A3 Sportback its second IMDb credit alongside the A8.
The American released in 2010 was the A5 Sportback’s time to shine.
The superhero obsession continued in 2013 as an R8 Spyder and an A8 both featured in The Wolverine.
Transformers: Age of Extinction was once again the A5’s time to shine, this time in Cabriolet format. It appeared in the 2014 movie alongside the S6.
In 2015, Audi showed off the R8 Spyder, A3 Saloon, S8, S7 and Q7 in the iconic Fifty Shades of Grey.
From 2017, Marvel has had a monopoly on Audi appearances in films beginning with the A8 in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Two years later, in 2019, Audi debuted its e-Tron line with the GT and Sportback concepts in Avengers: Endgame. The same year, Spider-Man: Far From Home showed off the e-Tron SUV’s abilities alongside the A7 and Q8.
Out of all these films, I would say that I would be more inclined to revisit E.T. and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’ve never been fond of the Marvel films for example and it’s been a while since I saw the 1982 classic.
