OK, once you’ve stopped drooling here are a few details on what makes the Huayra Tempesta worth $2.8million

Pagani take one ‘standard’ Huayra (there is such a thing) and fits the ‘Pacchetto Tempesta’ or ‘Storm Package’ for an extra £126k. Fun fact is that for the same amount of money you can buy an entire McLaren 540C. This package gives you more downforce from various aero enhancements including a new front splitter and rear diffuser. Also included are a set of lighter, forged wheels made from aeronautic grade aluminium.

The suspension is replaced by a set of four-way adjustable Ohlins shocks that were developed specifically for the Huayra. The single best part of this package though is the new exhaust system; it’s a hand-welded titanium system weighing in at just 7kg (3kg less than ‘standard’).

This new system gives that V12 AMG engine an ‘exclusive sound’ for both the car’s occupants and everyone else standing nearby as it rumbles past. Judging by this short video, it sounds ruddy marvellous which is absolutely OK with all of us here at DT.

The 6.0-litre V12 Twin-Turbo engine doesn’t receive a power increase, but for a car that sprints to 62mph in 3.2seconds, the 730bhp on tap seems to be plenty to be going on with.

This 2014 example finished in ‘Grigio Scuro Opaco’ was the first car delivered in North America. It is one of just a hundred cars built and has only covered 640 miles from new. Included in the sale is that rather stunning optional seven-piece luggage set costing just an additional $20,000.

The RM Sotheby’s auction listing describes the cars as “one of the most beautifully constructed vehicles seen thus far in the 21st century” and that it is “pure art on wheels” – Bold statements that we would find it very hard to disagree with based purely on the way the thing looks.
