Past Vs Present: what is faster on the track?
So, who is the Honda kingu of the track: The S2000 or the Civic type R?
A battle has been waging behind closed doors... and on the internet for some time. When you ask JDM lovers what is the best sporty Honda of all time, you end up having a fight - and not one of those cool, slow-mo fights you see in martial arts films either.
You get two answers: one being the classic sports car that won the hearts of thousands, back in the day - the S2000. The other being the Civic Type R, cool as a cucumber but bite into it, you find it's full of chilli paste. So why even pit these two different VTEC cars against each other? What makes them so different?
The S2000 may be older than some people reading this today, but it really can keep up with the new kids on the block. The new Civic Type R has all the power you can ever need in a road-worthy, hot-hatch but it can't even keep up with the sharp cornering power of the S2000. There is a lot of differences between them too: height, weight, RWD/FWD - never mind about the age gap.
Don't believe me? Check out Speed Academy's video on this Japanese showdown. Both cars have been modified in this video, so don't get upset if your Type R or S2000 doesn't do the same - but these two, ain't no Ricers boi... that's what the kids say, right?

The things I would do to own a clean S2000...
We entirely agree that these two are both amazing cars, but given the choice we would still go for the NSX...
Sir, have you a spare £143,000?
Unfortunately not 😅
The handling of the s2000 is just better in this video, And the sidewall on the Civics tyre is just to small, great for looks, bad for handling, it needs coilovers to beat the S2000 :D
Yep, 'these two, ain't no ricer boi', is exactly what young people say, maybe you could throw in a couple of lol's in there for added effect...
Also, i dunno if the objective of this article was this, but for some reason now I really want to see what a chilli paste stuffed cucumber tastes like...
We can come to ask you what that tastes like then, I don't like cucumber...
Cucumbers are fantastic.
I'd like to know what tyres both cars had on too. That can make a huge difference.
Both had continentals on, I think. They say near the end of the video.
Continental extreme contact sports in 255 width (340 treadwear) on both cars according to the vid.
