Paul Walker's five BMW M3s sold for a combined $1.2m
Paul Walker was, first and foremost, a car enthusiast and that's probably the main reason why playing Brian O'Conner in The Fast and the Furious franchise came natural to him. Over the years, Paul had purchased a plethora of interesting cars and 21 of these cars have recently been auctioned off, including the five lightweight BMW E36 M3s that you see here.
These five cars were put on sale at Barrett-Jackson’s Auction in Scottsdale (AZ) with no reserve and ended up selling for over 1.2 million dollars before fees.
The most valuable M3 had only done 4,600 miles and ended up fetching $350,000. The second most expensive M3 was sold for $235,000 with 42,514 miles on the clock. Another M3 was sold for $220,000 with 14,283 miles, and then two more models were sold for $200,000, having done 15,485 and 34,400 miles respectively. As you'd expect, all five M3s are in mint condition.
That sounds like a lot for an M3 but even though the fact that they were owned by Walker was a huge factor, these cars were actually already rare to begin with. The M3 Lightweight was introduced in 1995 and BMW only built around 120 units in total. They all came with factory Alpine White III paint and to cap it all off, most Lightweights even featured special chequered graphics.
The Lightweight is powered by a 3 L naturally-aspirated I6 producing 240 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent through the rear wheels only via a five-speed manual gearbox.
