Petrolhead Paradise

I rarely get to say such a statement but this truly was Petrolhead paradise. There were motorbikes, model cars, car care products, tools and cars, lots of them!

As the doors close on another year of Big Boys Toys Auckland, here's some of the highlights from this year- (don't forget there's a poll at the bottom)

The Cars-

The 2017 Ford GT

The star of the show for me was the 2017 Ford GT, this was the first time I got to see one and it was well worth the wait. I also got to see a Ferrari 812 Superfast up close which was rather special. I was very pleased to get a photo of the Corvette C1, another car that I have never seen in person before. There was clearly something for every kind of car enthusiast at the show!

A gorgeous NSX

A beautiful classic Corvette C1

A 1927 Austin 12-4

Tesla also debuted their Model 3 at the show!

The Model cars-

As I am a huge model car collector, I had to give a special mention to this section which featured some really rare models ranging from Hotwheels and Matchbox to Burago, Maisto, Welly and Corgi! To see what I picked up, you'll have to join Mini Motors Tribe (link below)

Me at the wheel of a Model S

A local electric car retailer was offering test drives in some of their cars and luckily I got the Model S whereas others got less interesting cars like the Hyundai Kona and the BMW i3! This was my first time experiencing the sheer acceleration of an electric car and I must say, it took 2 days or so for my neck to stop paining, what a machine! (Though I still miss the noise of a petrol car).

It was a great morning out for a petrolhead, it had everything to keep the car enthusiast occupied for hours. I was pleased to see many people who didn't know much about cars attending the show and asking questions to the people at the stalls, the future is bright folks! I will definitely be attending next year.

    • Oh boy, it had much the same effect on me. So much so that I ended up spending about 3 hours worth of wages there, well worth it though! Thanks for reading John.

    • It's better than spending wages on, I don't know, food.
