Peugeot 107

The Peugeot 107 is in almost every street. I have driven a Peugeot 107 XS 1.0 from 2012 and here is my review.

The Peugeot 107 is a small citycar that shares almost every part with the Citroën C1 and the Toyota Aygo. They were all built in the same factory in Kolín wich is neither in France nor in Japan but in the Czech Republic.

The Peugeot 107 XS 1.0 has a 1 litre, 3 cylinder engine producing 68 hp and 93 Nm of torque. At only 815 kg it would be the healthiest kid in America. It has a 5 speed semi-automatic gearbox. The acceleration is a bit of a let down, 0-100 km/h in 14 seconds. Deceleration goes a lot better. The Peugeot comes with a braking force distribution system, ABS and brake assist. All of that makes braking in bad weather and emergency stops a lot easier to handle as well as more effective and safe.

"... you can transform any ramp in the road into a real SPEED bump."

This all doesn't sound very exciting. However, this car handles great. You can go around a corner and, like most Peugeot drivers, forget what the other pedal thing next to the accelerator does and you'll be fine. The shock absorbers are exquisit. The ride is quite comfortable and you can transform any ramp in the road into a real speed bump. The automatic gearbox is characterful to say the least. It is never certain when or how it wants to change gears. This annoyance is easily solved by putting the gearbox in manual and using the formula 1 style pedals on the steering wheel. So, the acceleration will take a lot of time, but once you're at the desired speed you can stay there for as long as you like. It's like a race winning go cart that is flintstone style powered by an 80 year old asmatic.

I wouldn't mind living with this car. Just like every 5-door hatchback it is very practical. The back seats can fold down in parts making moving or going on holiday a lot easier. The interior ia a nice place to be. The dashboard is all bad quality plastic, but quite stylish and simple. I really like it. The 107 is, as you know, a small car. It also has a turning circle of 9.5 meter wich is the same as an Hyundai i10 from 2012. Parking is therefore effortless. Visibillity is great and with an average fuel consumption of 4.6 l/100km the 107 is very economical. However, not everything is brilliant. The seats are perfect for anyone under 185cm in length, I am not part of that group. The same goes for headspace. The boot size is fine, but the hatch is small. This means that you have to hammer curl every grocery bag to get them in your car.

This is actually my friend's car and he bought it for 4 000,- euros in 2020, wich is not a lot since it had done a lot less than 100 000 km. If you would like to buy a decent Toyota Aygo with semi-automatic gearbox from 2012 (wich is the same car) with less than 100 000 km today, it will set you back at least 5 350,- euros. So, if you want to buy one of these, look for a well maintained Peugeot 107. It can save you an easy 1 350,- euros.

The chances are, you do not want to buy this car. This is not a petrolhead's car. This is the kind of car for people who do not know what a hatchback is and are wondering what the flappy pedals on the steering wheel do. Most people aren't interested in horsepower or torque. They are interested in getting from A to B in the best possible manner. We all know people like that and the next time one of them asks you, the family car person; "What kind of car should I buy?", you should consider replying; "Have you heard about the Peugeot 107 XS 1.0?".

Thanks for reading. Bumb and comment.
