Peugeot To Become Electric-only by 2030
The French company will only sell EVs in Europe in 9 years time.
As part of parent conglomerate Stellantis's £21.7 billion electrification drive, Peugeot will only sell electric cars in Europe by 2030, although buyers outside the area will still be able to buy petrol and diesel-powered Peugeots after 2030.
Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson has stated in an interview with 'Automotive News Europe': "As we move on to the new [Stellantis] platforms, by 2030 in Europe all of our models will be electric. But I still have to make sure I maintain internal-combustion offerings for international customers."
The 2030 deadline is close to that of fellow Stellantis members Opel/Vauxhall, who aim to go electric-only by 2038.
Peugeot already seems ready enough to go electric-only, with 70% of its current line-up electrified, with only 2 cars - the 108 and 5008 - being without an electric variant. It's a shame that they will not be making a new 108 with an electric motor, because having a electric city car would really appeal to young people trying to save both money and the planet.
