Pirelli changes ultrasofts colour to pink for breast cancer awareness in US GP
The tyre manufacturer joins in the breast cancer awareness support.
After the initiative from Formula 1 management and Force India to support for breast cancer awareness in their respective ways, Pirelli has also joined in the fray.
The sole F1 tyre supplier will change its ultrasofts compound's colour from purple to pink for this weekend's US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, to show a symbol of 'solidarity and commitment'.
A statement from Pirelli reads: "Just for the Austin weekend, Pirelli’s P Zero Purple ultrasoft tyres will be coloured pink as well: backing the initiative launched by new F1 promoter Liberty Media to support the Susan G. Komen organisation at the United States Grand Prix.
"This is one of the most important organisations in the world when it comes to the fight against breast cancer. In terms of research, they have raised more the 920 million dollars since 1982, as well as carrying out far-reaching promotional work to inform people all over the world about breast cancer, thanks to a presence in more than 60 countries.
"Pirelli is completely behind this key initiative, using its tyres to get the impactful message across. It’s a symbol of solidarity and commitment, as well as a powerful reminder of the importance of the cause. So, this weekend, make sure you think pink."
Last month, F1 had announced a partnership with Susan G Komen, the world’s leading breast cancer organisation, in order to raise funds and also drive global awareness in the fight against this disease.
As a result of which, F1 will be partnering with the organisation in a number of on and off track activities this weekend in Autin, as a part of the ‘Drive for the Cure' initiative.
Meanwhile, Force India had also announced its partnership with Breast Cancer Care during Monaco Grand Prix, wherein they revealed of carrying the 'pink ribbon' in support of the awareness in selected races, including the US GP.
